Police have identified a 43-year-old man who died after he was struck by a vehicle as he was helping another driver whose car was disabled Monday evening on a west Lubbock freeway.

Morton Saenz died at University Medical Center following the crash that was reported about 6:55 p.m. Dec. 22 in the 5600 block of Spur 327, according to a statement from Lubbock police.

Investigators believe a passenger car driven by 29-year-old Collin Houghton was disabled on the side of the road when Saenz, who was driving a pickup, attempted to help move Houghton’s vehicle out of the lane of traffic.

As Saenz was hooking up his truck to the car, both vehicles and Saenz were struck by another passenger car. No other injuries were reported.

Police did not immediately name the driver of the third vehicle as no charges had been filed by Tuesday. Other factors contributing to the crash were not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing. The investigation is ongoing.
